founding story
The story of Linio Biotech began in 2005 at Tampere University, where Professor of Cell Biology Timo Ylikomi and PhD candidate Riina Uusmies were inspired by the untapped potential of adipose tissue. Motivated by scientific curiosity, Professor Ylikomi’s pioneering research into the tissue environment encouraged Uusmies to explore the regenerative properties of adipose tissue further.
Their collaboration led to a groundbreaking discovery: a new way for skin to regenerate itself. “We managed to make defective human tissue heal itself. It became clear that this technology was something entirely novel with enormous potential,” Uusmies recalls.
In addition to advancing scientific understanding, Ylikomi and Uusmies were united by a shared vision—to translate their discovery into a tangible product that could improve people’s lives by restoring healthier, better-functioning skin. This vision became the foundation of Linio Biotech.
After over a decade of intensive research and development, Linio Biotech was officially established in 2017. By then, the critical concepts underpinning their core technology had been rigorously proven. Today, their efforts have culminated in the creation of a sterile, cell-free product that unlocks the regenerative power of adipose tissue, offering limitless possibilities for tissue healing and regeneration.

Professor Ylikomi continues to serve as a university professor, contributing to academic research and education, while Linio Biotech has built a team of highly skilled scientists, including PhD researchers, who drive innovation and product development. Riina Uusmies
Founder, CTO
Riina, co-inventor of Tience technology, is a seasoned scientist and has cutting edge-knowledge in cellular biology, tissue engineering & regeneration. Expertise as a lead auditor and technical assessor for medical devices (MDD, IVDD) and quality management systems (ISO13485/9001). Comprehensive knowledge in GCP, GLP, ISO 10993 and FDA requirements. A total of publications 43, of which 28 original articles in peer reviewed international scientific journals. 5 invention disclosures and 5 patent applications.
